Apollo has introduced Subgraph and Connector-level insights in GraphOS Studio. Previously, engineers lacked specific visibility into their individual subgraphs or connectors, making it difficult to identify service-level performance bottlenecks, client impact, or deployment effects within the larger supergraph. Subgraph and connector level insights offer a dedicated dashboard for each service, enabling developers to:
-
Identify top traffic sources and their impact.
-
Discover common errors and their distribution.
-
Spot trends.
-
Compare how their subgraph’s performance ranks against peers.
-
Identify subgraph owners for easier communication in case of issues.
Teams will be able to engage with these insights either directly through our studio dashboards, or by decorating and exporting subgraph data to their own APM tooling via the standard OTel instrument, http.client.request.duration already supported in Router.
With subgraph insights we’re just getting started bringing engineers the level of visibility they need to quickly manage and contribute to a larger federated ecosystem. We’d love your feedback on this journey! Please let us know what you love or would change about our subgraph and connector insights, as well as what else you’d like to see from Apollo’s insights team.
